Between now and about 2020, a new wave of technology will enter the picture, changing what a car is in ways you may or may not like. Say what you will, this is some pretty cool tech.
Biometric Vehicle Access
Your car cost you a lot more than your cell phone, so why shouldn’t its security be as good? Soon you’ll be able to lock and unlock it or turn the ignition with your fingerprint.
True autopilot, here we come. Soon you’ll be able to just tell your car where you want to go, then sit back and enjoy the ride. Catch up on your reading!
Active Window Displays
Heads Up Displays will mature very soon. You’ll be Iron Man, but with a roomier interior and, sadly, no repulsor rays.
Active Health Monitoring
Your vehicle won’t just monitor your vital health statistics. It’ll be able to pull over, park and call paramedics if you have a heart attack on the road. We assume that, like Santa Claus, it will know when you’re sleeping and know when you’re awake.
Driver Override Systems
Remote sensor-equipped cars will take over if you’re about to have an accident – for instance, braking your vehicle even if you’re ‘flooring it’. It will override your mistakes.
Remote Vehicle Shutdown
Car chases are awfully exciting, but they’re already becoming a thing of the past. It’s just not the same when the police can shut your car down remotely.
We see that in the future, car thieves will have to be awfully clever. But the real purpose of vehicle-tracking tech will be to let the insurance companies know your driving habits.
Reconfigurable Body Panels
Like a truck? Like an SUV? How about an adjustable vehicle that can be either, depending upon how you slide certain panels? Welcome to 2020.
Smart In-Car Marketing
Car displays will feature location-based, personalized advertising. You won’t just be en route, you’ll be online. Many of us will hope there’s an ‘off’ switch for this particular feature.
Imagine an engine with over 600 horsepower made of lightweight materials – as is the car itself. When the future comes, don’t blink, because you’ll be hitting upwards of 200 mph. That is, until the cops turn your engine off remotely. All good things…
